No. 4 Franklin Central slipped past host No. 7 Lawrence Central, 106.575 to 105.925, in a gymnastics dual meet Jan. 21.

Seniors Jessie Leko (vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and all-around) and Camille Hayes (floor exercise) led Lawrence Central to a sweep of the individual events. Hayes was the 2008 state champion on the bars, while Leko was the ’08 floor champ.
“(This) was a good meet for us – we performed well for having our first home meet in three years!” said LC coach Barbi Kern. “Even though we ‘lost,’ we had good performances. Plus, it gave us a look at Franklin Central and to know what we are up against for county, conference, and sectionals.”
Despite claiming only five of the 15 top-three finishes, though, the Flashes were able to pull out the win. Emily Baker (9.05) and Molly Moran (9.0) placed 2-3 in the beam, while Baker was third in the vault (9.35) and the all-around (35.575).
